About Us

    Vermont Sun is a full service fitness center in Middlebury, Vermont.  Vermont Sun offers excellent exercise opportunities with its facilities in Middlebury and Vergennes, Vermont.  They include an indoor olympic pool, two fitness floors, a huge catalog of group fitness classes, racquetball, child care, massage, and more.  We also sponsor many local running events including the Shoreham Apple Blossom and the Middlebury Maple Run Half Marathon.
    The fitness center and the triathlon series were both established in 1986.  Our first race, the Lake Dunmore Triathlon, was actually a canoe-bike-run event.  Now entering our 27th year, we have produced over 140 events with more than 30,000 participants.  The series is one of the oldest and most respected in the country.  In 2012 the Vermont Sun Triathlon series will consist of five swim-bike-run events; three sprints, an olympic, and a half ironman distance.  All our races are held at beautiful Branbury State Park, on Lake Dunmore in Salisbury Vermont.  
    Vermont Sun is owned by Steve and Shelly Hare who, with General Manager David Payne, run the company and the triathlon series.  We say good bye, and a huge thank you, to Jerrod Rushton who has been the race director for the past 11 seasons.  David has assisted for the past five years and now takes over as race director.  You will not find a more racer friendly and beautiful venue anywhere!  The entire Hare family works the events with Dave and his excellent crew.
